How to Successfully Launch Your SaaS Product on Product Hunt

Discover How to Successfully Launch Your SaaS Product on Product Hunt

Having a successful launch on Product Hunt can be a game-changer for your business:

  • valuable website visitors

  • potential early adopters (perfect for MVPs)

Unfortunately, many people take the wrong approach. Many farm and fish for upvotes.

I spent some time researching this topic since I am going to launch my productized service in about two weeks.

Here is how to launch your SaaS product successfully by utilizing a basic strategy.

Set Goals

Your goal is to get on the front page. It is important to convert this influx of traffic into something useful for you. My approach is to collect emails since Product Hunt acts as a top-of-the-funnel element, and sales are unlikely at this stage. Make sure you don't waste these valuable eyeballs and convert them effectively.

Pre-Launch

1. Leverage Social-Media

Build a seed audience that is invested in the story of your product. You have to build a positive reputation. Always keep in mind that fans are more important than followers. Focus on people that are interested.

You can achieve this by providing value, asking for feedback, and telling your story in a compelling way. I recommend an audience of 400-500 followers to get the initial traction going. Product Hunt acts as an accelerator of momentum, not as the creator of it.

Also, prepare in advance. This includes social media content, announcements via email, etc.

2. Research Succesful Launches

Take a look at your niche. Who was successful and how did they achieve it? Apply some of their methods.

3. Schedule your product

Make sure to schedule your product in advance. This will allow people to sign up to get notified when your product launches. You can drive traffic to this pre-launch page through social media. Create valuable content around your launch and share your story. Do this by including both wins and struggles.

4. Optimize your Product Page

Keep the name and short description simple. Use either your logo or an animated gif. Make sure that you are using great visuals to catch attention and showcase what your product does. Create an engaging and concise product description. It should outline the unique features and benefits of your product. Utilize visuals to make your post skimmable. Try to convey what your product aims to deliver. Make sure to add personality to your creator's comment. Be humble and try to help. Don't hesitate to share your story, including the struggles that you have faced.

5. Polish your Website

Make sure that your website is optimized, works flawlessly, and is lightning fast. Optimize it for your conversion goals. Keep in mind that obtaining an email is easier than making a sale. Especially at this point of your customer's journey.

6. Engage with the Product Hunt community

• Make friends.

• Provide value.

• Make connections.

• Support others and offer your help.

7. Timing is crucial

• Day: Tuesday or Thursday

• Time: 12 AM PST (It's crucial that you choose PST as your timezone to get the maximum amount of exposure)

In summary: Build some hype before the launch.

Launch Day: Accelerating Your Success

Now it's time to make some noise. Reach out to your network and leverage it to get some initial traction. Kindly ask them to support your launch. Remember, quality support from engaged Product Hunt users is more valuable than sheer quantity.

Make sure to put the emphasis on conversions. A launch without conversions is much ado about nothing. Make sure to nurture your leads so you can eventually turn them into paying customers.

TLDR

  • Spread the word

  • Focus on conversion

  • Don't buy or farm upvotes

  • Connect with your audience

  • The key to a successful launch is preparation and being kind.

  • Use a give-before-you-take approach and you will come out ahead. I promise.
